Flower & Vegetable Show - September 2005 Bavarian Evening - December 2005

The Community Association's First Annual Flower and Vegetable Show, held on Sunday 4th September 2005 at Mancetter Memorial Hall.

The show itself was a huge success with kind weather, good crowds and over 300 entries in the 46 categories.  The judges quoted that it was one of the best shows of the year.  The show was well supported by local people and some from further afield, with David Evans winning most points in the flower section and Dan McInnis with the most overall points. There were many entries from children at the local school and ladies entered into the spirit of the occasion with entries in the home cooking categories as well as with flower and vegetable arrangements.

The whole event was superbly organised by David Mercer and Committee members and helpers and our thanks go to DeMulders, 3M’s, Automation Design, Midland Fleet, K. Millichamp, ICS, MG. Evans, The Plough, and many more who donated cash, prizes or their time.  Many of the entrants allowed us to auction their produce at the end of the day which has also helped towards our costs and will enable us to donate monies to a local children’s charity.

The Bavarian Evening held at Mancetter Memorial Hall on Saturday 3 December 2005 was a tremendous success.  The hall was almost full to capacity with many people dressed for the occasion, including many men in their “lederhosen”.  The entertainment was provided by the Van Winkler Oompah Band, who had no problem involving the entire audience in their variety of songs in the usual German tradition.  Food and drink were plentiful, the room was decorated for the occasion, and a successful raffle was held with most of the prizes being donated by the Committee.

The Association had issued invitations to two representatives from each of the “ Warwickshire Air Ambulance “, “ Cramer House “, and the “ Mary Ann Evans Hospice”, who gladly accepted a donation of £100 each for their respective charities from our Chairman, Mr Harry Blackburn.

VICTORIAN FOLLIES EVENING

The Community Association held its second Victorian Follies Evening on Saturday 4 March 2006.

The hall was filled with people who anticipated an entertaining evening and they certainly weren’t disappointed.  Some of the audience even dressed in Victorian costume and everyone enjoyed joining in with the old songs that they knew so well.  The Music
Hall and Variety Show provided a programme which included comedy songs and sketches which made the audience laugh until they cried. There were some magnificently sung tender solos and duets and the
Company ended the evening beautifully with a Gershwyn Medley of ballads. The choreography, costumes and singing skills were of a highly professional standard.

The audience were given a lovely hot supper and there was a bar on the evening with both of these being provided by local people.
