All Parish Council meetings are held at The New School Room, St. Peter's Church, Mancetter, and commence at 7.00pm prompt, except the May meeting which is held immediately after the Annual Meeting of Mancetter Parish. Access to the room is from the Church Car Park, the drive of which is located between the Church and the Plough Inn. Very occasionally there may be a need to change the meeting from the scheduled date. Wherever possible details will be posted on the Parish Council Noticeboards and on this web site. If you wish to attend a Parish Council Meeting please contact the Parish Clerk. From old records of the Parish Council Meetings In November/December 1934 Mancetter Parish Council approached the Leicestershire and Warwickshire Electric Power Company with its proposals to purchase street lighting in Mancetter. Initially this was for eight street lights. Each light was to be fitted with a 100 watt gas filed electric lamp. The iniitial payment for this was £35 with an additional annual charge of £29 and 5 Shillings. This was such a major project and expense for the Parish Council that the project was not finalised until April 1938. The switching on and extinguishing of the street lighting was a very manual operation. Just over a year later the Parish Council was again in consultation with the Power Company to negotiate the cost of extinguishing the street lights during the 'black out' periods in the Second World War. How would we cope with 100 watt bulbs in our street and someone flicking a switch to light and put out the street lights? How times have changed! |
