Annual Family Fun Day
Most of the contributors and exhibitors brought along their gazebos for protection from the elements, and were very glad of them on several occasions during the afternoon and they made a colourful display arranged around the central display arena. The Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Martin Davis, and his good lady Gill arrived at 2pm to open the proceedings, sensibly armed with a large brolly. The Dog Show, organised by Nuneaton Dog Display Team, ran throughout the afternoon, with displays and demonstrations followed by competition classes for all-comers. There were certainly some waggy tails on display and everyone had fun with lots of rosettes being awarded. We were glad of support from the local Police, who brought along their Community Support vehicle, as well as a visit from the local Fire Service, complete with Fire Engine. Several local companies supported us, including Dobbies who were kind enough to provide a raffle for a lovely planter full of summer flowers. This was won by Cheryl from reVOLve who had also kindly brought along a group of volunteers to help us on the day. We were very grateful for their assistance – particularly on the bouncy castle which as usual proved very popular. The ‘Dine out for £1’ prize draw was a great success and there will be 5 lucky couples enjoying the local hostelries in the near future, courtesy of their winning tickets. There was a good turn-out of local residents to support the event and we hope they all enjoyed the day. Lots of people helped us make the Fun Day a success, and we should like to thank each of them for their contribution. Plans are now under way for the Childrens’ Christmas Party and we will announce more details soon – please look out for the posters locally to secure your tickets. |
